El Agora opened the area of international health. A group work and at the same time, a place to share experiences and democratize the knowledge of a quite sensitive field, which is information that is vital in such a globalized world.
International health constitutes the hope of being able to break free from that resigned paragraph in Alma Ata’s declaration. After announcing an evocative goal, such as Health for All, it finished off saying “…at a cost that countries can face”. We believe the statement was misinterpreted; the right to health requires the generation of a strong current of technical, economic and political cooperation between nations. This would provide the opportunity to move towards global equity in health.
We do not utilize the widespread term ‘global health’, because we believe this concept encloses a certain dose of idealism. It does not take into consideration the complexities involving the fragmentation or level of conflict inherent in international relations. It is necessary to create links, consensus and solidarity.
One of the first few group activities to be included will be an investigation plan on migration and health. Soon, we hope to be able to present the quarterly electronic publication:
